In November, the number of job seekers increased by 1,422 to a total of 290,425, and the unemployment rate increased to 3.9%. That is 27,199 more when compared to the same period of 2023. The unemployment rate remained 4.3% for women and it increased to 3.5% for men.
A month-on-month increase in the unemployment rate was recorded in 53 districts, highest in the districts - Jeseník (by 7.9 %), Znojmo (by 6.3 %),Český Krumlov (by 6.2 %), Klatovy (by 5.8 %), Sokolov (by 5.3 %), Jičín (by 5.0 %), Břeclav (by 4.3 %), Písek (by 4.2 %).
The unemployment rate has increased again. The labour market is frozen, many companies have suspended hiring and are waiting for the economic situation to develop in the first quarter. Although the pre-Christmas season usually brings an increased demand for employees in retail, e-commerce, logistics and catering, this year's recruitment of seasonal workers is significantly lower than in previous years. The traditional pre-Christmas demand for temporary workers has thus failed to compensate for job losses caused by corporate restructuring. The general economic uncertainty is also having an impact on employment. Employees are less likely to change jobs for worries that it would be difficult for them to find a new position, and firms are focusing on optimising costs, which in some cases means cutting jobs.
At Randstad, we expect a number of companies to make redundancies in the coming months, particularly in the wake of the problems in the German economy. This trend is particularly evident in the automotive sector and its suppliers, which are heavily dependent on Germany. In view of these factors, it can be expected that the unemployment rate could continue to rise in the coming months.
